What is a Licensed Public Adjuster?

A public adjuster is an experienced claims professional who is licensed by Michigan’s Insurance Commissioner to act on behalf of the public or the Insured as stipulated in the insurance policy.  The insured is usually a Home or Business owner.  The public adjuster acts strictly on behalf of the Insured.  He or she deals directly with the insurance company in submitting and negotiating the best possible settlement for the Insured.

Why do I need a Public Adjuster?

If you have a minor loss and some knowledge of claims handling you may not need a Public Adjuster, especially if you are being treated fairly by the Insurance company & their adjuster.

However, when faced with a serious loss you are often in no mental state to be making any business or financial decisions.  This alone puts you at a great disadvantage.  Decisions you make in the event of a major loss can have a lasting impact on you and your family and/or business.  It only makes sense to seek professional assistance much as you would in any other (less serious) situation.

The insurance company adjuster does after all represent the insurance company!  This is what they do for a living and most are very good at what they do.  If you are not aware of policy coverage and your rights, you will simply be at the mercy of the company adjuster.  You have other choices. Many people are clueless as to the amount of time, effort, and expense involved in properly filing and eventually settling a serious claim.  It often takes months and in some cases years before final settlement is actually reached.

How Does A Public Adjuster Prepare My Claim?

The Public Adjuster will complete all requirements of the policy in submitting your loss to the insurance carrier.  The Public Adjuster will process all forms and paperwork supporting your claim.  Other professionals will be utilized as needed in supporting, documenting and defending your claim.  You will be aware of the progress of the claims handling and will be encouraged to review and approve the Public Adjuster’s work.  Final settlement after all will be concluded on your behalf!

How Do I Know If I Really Need A Public Adjuster?

All situations are different but usually a serious loss has to occur indicating a long road to recovery may be ahead of you. Sometimes you simply realize you and the Insurance Company are not getting along and you question whether or not they have your best interest in mind!  If you're feeling dazed, confused, stressed out, and simply lost you need help now!
